About the Topic
The Loop Current in the Gulf of Mexico is well recognized in the offshore industry as an important factor in the design, construction and operation of deepwater production facilities. This meeting is designed as an interactive forum to develop: (1) a working physical understanding of the loop current, (2) an understanding of how the loop current affects design, and (3) an understanding of how the loop current affects construction operations. Strategies to deal with the effects of Loop Current will be explored.
About the Speakers
Ken Schaudt is an oceanographer and certified consulting meteorologist. Ken has worked in the offshore industry since 1978, with particular emphasis on operations in the vicinity of the loop current, eddies and the Gulf Stream; design and operational support for onshore and offshore projects from the Polar regions to the Equator; Gulf of Mexico eddy research; trading, ship routing and vessel response forecasting; and the evaluation of the environment's effects on structures and operations.
Don Allen is Business Team Manager for Pipelines and Offshore Structures with Shell Global Solutions Inc. A Ph.D. who has worked with vortex induced vibrations (VIV) throughout his 17 year career with Shell, Don is the holder of 15 patents, and has published extensively on VIV and methods to reduce or eliminate its effect on offshore structures, including spars, risers, conductors and pipelines.
Frank Lange has 20 years offshore experience, including the past 15 years with Heerema. Frank is currently the Manager for Technologies, covering Naval Architecture, Civil, and Foundation work. He has extensive experience with operations impacted by loop current events.
